One last thing, all DAW's can record great music, no one DAW is better than the other (a debated topic but true to anyone who has used lots of different DAWs). BTW if you buy FL Studio it comes with lifetime free updates which is not offered by any other DAW that I know of. If you want to add real instruments or vocals you will need an audio interface. You can create an entire song without using a real instrument or needing any other hardware, assuming you don't want to record vocals. If you are wanting to create computer based music then I agree with David on FL Studio or Ableton. If you are wanting to create mostly electronic/computer based music then certain DAW's have a better workflow. You can then later join me on Propellerhead Reason once you understand the basic concepts of what a DAW does down the line so that you can learn more easily NOW what a DAW can and cannot do. It's not built in away for someone brand spanking new to digital music. I am a Propellerhead Reason producer and would not recommend it for anyone who is just starting out because it is too complex for the brand new wet behind your ears beginner.
